Emilie Normand

Head Coach 14 Team

Emilie began playing volleyball at the age of 13 after trying out for a club team in her hometown of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on a whim. Despite having very little knowledge of volleyball, she made the team and began playing for the National Capitals Volleyball Club, which later became the Ottawa Fusion Volleyball Club. She was a leader on her club team as a middle hitter and as she progressed in the sport, she decided to pursue a higher level of volleyball having her sights set on playing volleyball in university.

After graduating in 2011, she was recruited to play for Queen’s University competing the Ontario University Athletics league against the top universities in Ontario. In her first year, her team won provincials and competed at nationals against the top teams in Canada. After her second year, she made the switch to support as a right side player and earned most improved player for that year after making the switch as a main contributor on the team. decided to pursue the next chapter in her life, retiring and attending graduate school, completing a Master of Marine Management at Dalhousie University in Canada, and she moved to California in 2018 after she received a job opportunity, and has been here ever since.

Since she was 16, she began coaching younger athletes and providing mentorship to younger players in her club. She’s coached numerous camps with Fusion, Ottawa University, and Queen’s throughout the years, coaching both girls and boys between the ages of 12 and 17. She always cherished the opportunity to work with younger athletes to develop their skills and knowledge of the game and is still in touch with several of the athletes she has coached. She has also remained close to the sport supporting her mother who coordinates volunteers for the Volleyball Nations League which has been hosted in her hometown for the last three years.
